The Australian Association of Social Workers have proposed new Australian Social Work Education and Accreditation Standards (ASWEAS) 2024.

The proposed ASWEAS remove many of the current employment requirements for social work programs to be accredited. NTEU shares the concerns of many social work educators and professionals that these changes could potentially threaten employment of social work educators, undermine quality social work education and deprofessionalise the social work profession.

    NTEU calls for AASW to immediately withdraw ASWEAS (2024) and engage in proper consultation with universities and those in the sector concerned with quality social work education. We call on AASW to honour their responsibility and previous commitment to protect educational standards and industrial conditions that enable quality education for social work students.
